Being a Good Neighbor
While SMI's reach extends to many pats of the world, we maintain a special relationship with the community we call home. Over the past seven seasons, the Credo and Opus 1 festivals have become a staple of Oberlin and Lorain and Cuyahoga counties: every year, the festivals provides residents with a host of free public perormances; outreach concerts bring the gift of music to underserved audiences; and students of the festivals serve thousands of Northeast Ohioans by volunteering at local nonprofits.
Annually we hold around 35 public performances, 25 of which are outreach concerts targeting marginalized communities, and we donate around 700 volunteer hours at area nonprofits. Moreover, with nearly one-fifth of students from Northeast Ohio (60% of whom received financial aid) the summer fetivals strongly represent our region.
Throughout the year, SMI also holds concerts and events to benefit Oberling and the greater Cleveland area. To find out more, contact our offices. |
